I decided to choose to research rhetoric and writing within accounting. Since I was a junior in high school I have always been very interested in accounting. I took a class in high school which was Accounting 100 and in that class I really did not encounter much writing. After researching a lot about writing in accounting I noticed that accountants write a lot more than I thought. Everyday they are writing up reports and statements about the work that they previously completed. This really shocked me because I did not think that accountants did any writing in their work. This research also helped me figure out what being an accountant entitles. I have recently wanted to major in accounting and this research gave me a heads up of what is to come. This research showed me that I would be a good candidate to major in accounting. After finding various texts and articles it is evident that the writing that accounts do is more than people think. Most of the work is reports they do on various financial statements. For example one article gives an example about the writing after the completion of an income statement. After the completion of an income statement they not only have to close out the accounts but if they found errors or mistakes they are required to report the mistakes on a separate spreadsheet. Even though most people think that accounts most used computer program is Excel, one article argues that accounts use Word more. This reports are not one word responses either. Most of the time they are long thought responses because if they are not then it means they did not complete the financial statements correctly. In conclusion after my extensive research I realized how much writing accountants actually do.
